Create your own Ecosphere

The Ecosphere was developed to encourage wildlife and increase biodiversity in gardens, workplaces and community spaces. Built using natural and recycled materials, it provides shelter and nesting opportunities for a wide variety of species.
Designed to evolve naturally over time, every Ecosphere becomes unique as wildlife begins to interact with it and make it their own.

Getting started

Five simple steps to build an Ecosphere

Step 1

Choose the right location

Select a quiet area where wildlife can visit undisturbed. Consider available space and position your Ecosphere where it can remain in place throughout the seasons.

Step 2

Gather natural materials

Fill your Ecosphere with a variety of materials to attract different species, including:

  • Bamboo
  • Logs
  • Twigs and branches
  • Bark
  • Stones
  • Straw
  • Leaves
  • Pine cones
  • Corrugated cardboard

Creating different sections with varied materials helps support a wider range of insects and wildlife.

Step 3

Provide shelter

Once assembled, place a protective roof or cover over the structure to help create a safe and sheltered habitat throughout the year.

Step 4

Monitor and refresh

Wildlife preferences change over time. Regularly check your Ecosphere and refresh materials where needed to keep it attractive to different species.

Step 5

Share your success

Encourage others to get involved by sharing your project with colleagues, friends, schools and local communities. Every habitat created contributes to a healthier ecosystem.
